Forecast to become a rare category five, Hurricane Melissa is turning northwest toward Jamaica with 120 mph winds and an expected landfall by Tuesday, the US National Hurricane Center said. Though likely to weaken to category four near the island, it warned there's little practical difference in impact: up to 30 inches of rain, 13 ft storm surge, power cuts and infrastructure damage, and life-threatening flash floods and landslides, including around Kingston. Residents were urged to "seek shelter now." Warnings extend to Haiti, the Dominican Republic and eastern Cuba; two people have died in Haiti landslides.
