Lammy orders probe after mistaken prisoner release

Justice Secretary David Lammy told MPs that convicted sex offender Hadush Kebatu was mistakenly freed from HMP Chelmsford due to apparent human error, then rearrested in London. He announced an independent investigation led by Dame Lynne Owens and an urgent HMPPS review with tougher senior checks, and said Kebatu will be deported to Ethiopia as quickly as possible.
