Arizona sues Mike Johnson to force swearing-in of Democrat who could sway Epstein vote

Arizona attorney general Kris Mayes has sued to compel House Speaker Mike Johnson to swear in Adelita Grijalva, the Democrat elected on 23 September to a southern Arizona seat previously held by her late father. Mayes says the delay amounts to “taxation without representation,” after a missed deadline she set in an Oct. 14 letter. Johnson cites the ongoing, second-longest government shutdown and says he’ll seat her when it ends; he rejects claims the Epstein files are a factor. Grijalva, unable to access basic resources, and Arizona’s Democratic senators have pressed for immediate swearing-in.
