Turkey sets new record of 50.5 degrees as Europe swelters

Turkey recorded a record high temperature of 50.5 degrees Celsius in Silopi, exceeding the previous record of 49.5 degrees. The intense heatwave, affecting much of the eastern Mediterranean, has caused widespread wildfires across Turkey, resulting in 13 deaths and the evacuation of numerous villages and homes. Hospitals are reporting increased cases of heatstroke and dehydration. Greece is also battling significant wildfires, requesting EU assistance, as the heatwave continues across the region.
