Mecca Defense Pact Signed
The leaders of Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Pakistan have officially signed a historic mutual defense pact in Mecca. The agreement explicitly states that any armed attack against any one of the three participating states will be legally and militarily regarded as an attack against all of them. The signing of the trilateral pact coincides with escalating military confrontations involving United States forces and regional actors. United States Central Command announced that naval forces have redirected 51 merchant ships, disabled two, and boarded two additional vessels since the resumption of the naval blockade targeting Iran on July 14. Concurrently, Iranian state media reported that Iran and Oman have reached a preliminary framework agreement regarding the contested Strait of Hormuz, pending final authorization at higher governmental levels. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian issued a public statement emphasizing that while Tehran does not pursue territorial expansion or open warfare, the nation will reject external coercion.
