Selma, N.C. — Multiple fire departments responded Thursday night to a fire at the Atkinson Milling Company off NC 42 East after crews were dispatched around 8:30 p.m. when a blaze was reported inside the business. Units from the Antioch, Northside, Corinth Holders, Selma and Middlesex Fire Departments arrived to find a working fire inside the building, and firefighters were able to quickly bring the flames under control. Smoke filled the building, but crews prevented the flames from spreading beyond the area of origin. The Johnston County Fire Marshal's Office responded to investigate and determined the fire originated in a fryer inside the building and ruled the blaze accidental.
