Researchers from the Wisconsin Underwater Archeology Association have discovered the 1886 shipwreck of the F.J. King, a schooner dubbed a 'ghost ship' due to its elusive nature. The discovery, located near Baileys Harbor, Wisconsin, was made possible by utilizing a local lighthouse keeper's historical account pinpointing the ship's location. The remarkably well-preserved wreck offers a unique glimpse into 19th-century Great Lakes shipping, adding to the growing number of discoveries in the region fueled by improved technology and clearer waters. Hundreds of shipwrecks remain undiscovered in Lake Michigan alone.
