Northern Lights Visible Across US Due to Geomagnetic Storm

Read, Watch or Listen

A powerful geomagnetic storm, possibly reaching G3 or G4 levels, is expected to make the aurora borealis visible across much of the northern U.S., including areas as far south as northern California and Alabama. The storm, caused by a coronal mass ejection from the sun, could also disrupt power grids, satellites, and radio communications. While the ejection is weakening, elevated solar wind conditions could still result in a significant cosmic event. The aurora is best viewed in dark settings late at night or early morning.
