President Trump's appointment of Jeanine Pirro as interim U.S. Attorney for Washington D.C. has sparked controversy regarding the legality of consecutive interim appointments. Federal law allows the Attorney General to appoint an interim attorney for 120 days, but the Trump administration already utilized this provision. The question remains whether presidents can repeatedly appoint interim attorneys, bypassing Senate confirmation. U.S. Attorneys are chief law enforcement officers in their districts, wielding substantial power including initiating criminal prosecutions.

Mexico City's Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum announced a lawsuit against Google for altering its maps to label the Gulf of Mexico as the "Gulf of America." This follows a 2017 Trump administration executive order that only renamed U.S.-controlled waters. While Google initially displayed both names, Sheinbaum considers this unacceptable, viewing it as compliance with the U.S. order. The renaming has sparked outrage in Mexico, though Sheinbaum's measured response has generally been well-received.

Former special counsel prosecutor Jay Bratt will testify before the House judiciary committee next week regarding the DOJ's cases against Donald Trump. The Republican-led committee seeks to uncover evidence of political bias in the investigations. Bratt led the classified documents case against Trump. The deposition is notable as it's the first time a special counsel prosecutor has been summoned since Trump's presidency.

A US-Gulf summit will be held in Saudi Arabia in mid-May, marking President Trump's first visit to the region during his second term. Speculation abounds regarding a significant announcement, potentially involving a declaration on Palestinian statehood and the expansion of the Abraham Accords. While some anticipate major economic deals, others suggest the focus will be on large-scale economic agreements and investments, potentially mirroring the substantial deals made during the 2017 summit. The absence of key regional leaders like the Egyptian and Jordanian presidents fuels this uncertainty.

FEMA's new acting administrator, David Richardson, warned staff against resisting upcoming changes, threatening to "run right over" those opposed. He plans to shift more responsibilities and costs to states, aligning with President Trump's vision. Richardson, lacking disaster management experience, emphasized adhering to the president's agenda. His predecessor, Cameron Hamilton, was fired after congressional testimony expressing opposition to eliminating FEMA, a possibility the Trump administration is considering. A FEMA mission analysis is planned to identify inefficiencies.

President Trump's nomination of Casey Means for Surgeon General is facing backlash from anti-vaccine groups and far-right figures. Means lacks full medical credentials and has expressed anti-vaccine views, yet is deemed insufficiently extreme by some prominent anti-vaccine activists. They accuse Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who championed the nomination, of betraying the movement and acting against its interests. The controversy highlights internal divisions within the anti-vaccine community and questions the implementation of Kennedy's health agenda. While some within the wellness community support Means, others see her as an establishment pick, sparking accusations of deception and betrayal.

President Trump announced "Project Homecoming," a plan offering financial incentives to illegal immigrants to voluntarily leave the US. The program aims to reduce the $150 billion annual cost of supporting illegal immigrants and bolster national sovereignty. Those who choose to remain face increased deportation efforts involving a 20,000-person increase in enforcement personnel. The initiative provides free flights and an "exit bonus" for voluntary departures, facilitated by a streamlined process including a new CBP application. Penalties for those remaining illegally will be increased.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent warned Congress that the U.S. might exhaust its borrowing authority by August, urging them to raise the debt ceiling by mid-July to prevent an economic crisis. Bessent cited uncertainty in the exact date but stressed the urgency given Congress's upcoming August recess. Republicans, while planning to increase the debt ceiling as part of a broader bill, face internal divisions and an uncertain timeline. Failure to act could trigger a financial crisis and damage America's global standing.
