Saturday Night Live's season finale featured James Austin Johnson's portrayal of Donald Trump, freshly returned from a Middle East trip. The sketch satirized Trump's interactions with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, including a joke about a potential $400 million plane gift and a large aircraft deal with Boeing. Trump's comments touched on his preference for the Middle East, comparing it unfavorably to the state of US air travel and referencing Morgan Wallen's earlier departure from SNL. The skit ended with Trump's uncertain outlook on the future of the US.

Poland held a presidential election on Sunday amid heightened security concerns linked to the war in Ukraine and potential weakening US support. The leading candidates are liberal Rafał Trzaskowski and conservative Karol Nawrocki, with a second round likely on June 1st. Other candidates, including a far-right populist, are also competing. The election is significant due to the president's considerable power, including control of the armed forces and veto power. Foreign interference attempts were reported, including cyberattacks and allegations of foreign-funded political ads. The outcome will significantly impact domestic policy and the ongoing political standoff.

A UK-EU summit is set to finalize agreements including UK passport holders' access to EU e-gates at airports, easing food export regulations, and establishing a youth mobility scheme. Government Minister Nick Thomas-Symonds is actively pursuing these deals, aiming for quicker border crossings and lower food prices. However, Conservative MP Alex Burghart expressed concern about potential regulatory alignment with the EU, while others debated the implications of youth mobility and defence cooperation, with opposing views on the extent of potential concessions to the EU.

The Heritage Foundation recently sent a delegation to Israel to discuss "Project Esther," a plan to dismantle the pro-Palestinian movement in the U.S. The project, drafted after Hamas's 2023 attack, aims to combat antisemitism by labeling critics of Israel as a terrorist support network, potentially facing deportation, defunding, and other repercussions. The delegation met with key Israeli officials, including the foreign and defense secretaries and U.S. Ambassador Mike Huckabee. Project Esther has drawn significant criticism for its sweeping measures.

Poland's presidential election on Sunday will determine whether the ruling coalition's stalled reform agenda can advance. Incumbent President Andrzej Duda's veto power has hampered progress on key issues like rule of law and LGBTQ+ rights. The two frontrunners are Rafal Trzaskowski, backed by the current government, and Karol Nawrocki, supported by the opposition. The outcome hinges on voter turnout and the second-round choices of voters for other candidates, particularly the strong showing of far-right candidate Slawomir Mentzen.

President Trump, in a Fox News interview, asserted he's not frustrated with Prime Minister Netanyahu despite recent reports of tension. He described Netanyahu as "an angry man" hurt by the October 7 attacks, which Trump blamed on the Biden administration's Iran policy. Trump reiterated his belief that the attacks wouldn't have happened under his presidency, citing Iran's previous lack of funds to support Hamas. He suggested Gaza become a "freedom zone" and noted Gulf state leaders' potential involvement in its future.

President Trump's meeting with Syria's new leader, Ahmed al-Shara, at the Saudi royal palace marked a shift in US Middle East policy. Trump promised to lift sanctions on Syria, despite al-Shara's past ties to Al Qaeda and Israel's condemnation of him as a 'jihadist.' This decision effectively sidelines Israel, which has been a central player in US Middle East policy for decades. The move contrasts sharply with the views of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, whose government has repeatedly targeted Syria militarily. Trump's actions highlight a significant change in the US approach to the region.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer's attempt to improve relations with the EU is facing strong opposition. Critics, including the Conservative Party, are labeling the upcoming summit a "surrender summit," highlighting the lingering divisions over Brexit. Despite surveys showing widespread regret over leaving the EU, and potential economic benefits of closer ties, a significant faction remains staunchly against reconciliation with the bloc, nine years after the referendum.

UK newspapers offer varied perspectives on the upcoming UK-EU summit, dubbed a "surrender summit" by some. The deal, expected to be finalized Monday, may cost Britain hundreds of millions and grant EU fishing rights. Conservative critics warn of border implications, while others highlight potential benefits. Other news includes reports on a Post Office scandal victims' choir seeking justice, a new Home Guard for critical infrastructure protection, and rising seagull attacks due to warmer temperatures.

Michael Gove, former UK cabinet minister, agrees with Scottish First Minister John Swinney that a second independence referendum could happen if there's overwhelming public support. While Gove doesn't currently believe another vote is necessary, he acknowledges a shift in UK government policy might be required if SNP popularity and pro-independence sentiment significantly increase. He emphasizes the importance of demonstrating the UK union is functioning effectively and highlights the need for governments to focus on key issues like the economy, health, and transport.
