Three senators—Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders, and Ron Wyden—warned Paramount Global chair Shari Redstone that a potential settlement of Donald Trump's $20 billion lawsuit against CBS might violate federal bribery laws. They allege Paramount is attempting to appease Trump to secure merger approval, citing content moderation and the recent departures of key CBS News figures as evidence. The senators' letter expresses concerns about journalistic independence being compromised and requests answers regarding content changes made to influence the merger approval. Paramount's spokesperson didn't immediately respond, while the Wall Street Journal reported Redstone's recusal from settlement talks.

Rep. LaMonica McIver, a New Jersey Democrat, denounced federal assault charges against her stemming from a clash outside an ICE detention facility as "absurd." The incident involved lawmakers attempting an oversight visit, leading to a physical altercation with officers. McIver maintains she was doing her job and rejects allegations of assault, stating she refused a plea deal requiring her to admit guilt. Prosecutors dropped trespassing charges against Newark Mayor Ras Baraka, but McIver faces charges for allegedly impeding officers. She insists the situation was unnecessarily escalated by ICE and views the charges as political intimidation.

FBI Director Kash Patel has shut down the FBI's office of internal auditing, a unit created to monitor the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA). This office, established in 2020 under Attorney General William Barr, investigated potential FISA abuses. Patel, a former Trump administration official and FISA critic, has reversed course and now views FISA as a vital national security tool. The closure raises concerns about oversight of FISA and could reignite calls for its repeal when it comes up for renewal in 2026. The NYT reports the office's functions have been absorbed into the bureau's inspection division.

Qatar's prime minister denied accusations that a proposed $400 million Boeing 747 jet to President Trump was an attempt to influence the White House. He described it as a legitimate defense-to-defense transaction, part of decades-long cooperation. The offer, alongside a large Boeing aircraft order, has drawn criticism from Democrats, who raised ethical concerns and cited the Foreign Emoluments Clause. Trump stated the plane would temporarily replace Air Force One and later go to a presidential library. Qatar maintains the transaction is mutually beneficial and transparent.

New Jersey Democratic Rep. LaMonica McIver faces two assault charges for allegedly resisting arrest outside an immigration detention facility. The Justice Department, under interim U.S. Attorney Alina Habba (a former Trump attorney), filed the charges, stating McIver assaulted ICE and Homeland Security agents. McIver denies the charges, calling them politically motivated and aimed at deterring congressional oversight. Democrats denounced the charges as an attempt to intimidate Congress, while Habba asserted that nobody is above the law. The incident occurred during a protest against the facility's reopening.

FBI Director Kash Patel closed the Office of Internal Auditing, a 2020-established unit focused on preventing national security surveillance misuse. This comes as Congress debates Section 702 of FISA, a warrantless wiretapping law the office scrutinized. Critics argue this closure weakens oversight of the surveillance program, potentially impacting its renewal. Patel, previously critical of FBI surveillance abuses, now supports the program. The FBI hasn't commented, citing a broader reorganization that consolidated the office's functions into the inspection division.

President Trump, speaking at a Kennedy Center dinner, falsely claimed the 2020 election was rigged against him. He stated that if the election hadn't been "stolen," he would be retired. Instead, he said he'll run again, using vulgar language to express his intent to retaliate against those he believes cheated him. Trump also highlighted his role in securing the 2028 Olympics for Los Angeles and the 2026 World Cup for North America.

HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. will testify before the Senate Appropriations Committee on Tuesday regarding the proposed 26% budget cut to the agency. The hearing will likely revisit his controversial stances on vaccines and fluoride, following his refusal to answer related questions in previous hearings. The proposed budget drastically reduces funding for NIH, CDC, and LIHEAP. Kennedy's past promotion of misinformation about vaccines, despite over 1000 measles cases this year, is expected to be a key focus.

Ukrainian President Zelensky accused Russia of stalling truce talks by proposing unrealistic conditions, rejecting claims of imminent peace negotiations. Following separate calls with both leaders, Donald Trump announced the start of immediate truce talks. However, Russia denied any deadlines and emphasized Kyiv's need to respond to peace proposals. Zelensky engaged in diplomacy with Western allies, securing further sanctions from the EU and UK targeting Russian oil tankers and military suppliers, while Trump opposed additional sanctions.

Israel is considering recalling its delegation from Doha following stalled ceasefire negotiations with Hamas. While a lower-level team will remain for indirect talks, Prime Minister Netanyahu may pull the delegation as early as Tuesday if no progress is made. This comes despite a recent extension granted to allow more time for negotiations, influenced by US concerns. Simultaneously, Israel allowed humanitarian aid into Gaza for the first time in two months, although the Prime Minister's Office denies any connection to the recent release of an Israeli-American hostage. Hamas seeks a longer ceasefire and prisoner releases in exchange for hostages.
