US Launches Heavy Wave of Strikes on Iran After Base Attack

The United States military launched a heavy wave of airstrikes against Iran following a five-night pause in hostilities. U.S. Central Command stated that the military action was carried out in response to a ballistic missile attack targeting American forces stationed at a base in Jordan. U.S. Central Command confirmed that the operation struck dozens of targets belonging to Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. The targeted sites included military command centers, missile and drone facilities, coastal surveillance and defense sites, and maritime capabilities. Iranian state media reported that at least three civilians, including a couple and their two-year-old child, were killed during strikes on Qeshm Island in the Persian Gulf. Explosions and power outages were also reported in southwestern Iranian cities including Ahvaz, Abadan, Bushehr, Kazerun, and Farashband. Prior to the military action, U.S. President Donald Trump vowed a severe response after missiles were fired at U.S. positions in Jordan. Jordan’s military reported that its air defenses successfully intercepted incoming missiles launched from Iranian territory, resulting in no casualties within the kingdom. Concurrently, Iran's Revolutionary Guards claimed that two oil tankers attempting to transit the Strait of Hormuz under U.S. support turned back after a fire broke out on one of the vessels. The ongoing confrontation has severely impacted regional security and trade routes across the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz.
