Thieves stole four valuable Pierre-Auguste Renoir paintings from a museum in Cagnes-sur-Mer on the French Riviera, abandoning two in the garden during their escape. The well-equipped perpetrators breached the Renoir Museum via the garden using a cutting tool and entered the ground floor to remove the frames. An alarm sounded at 5:48 a.m. local time, prompting police to arrive within five minutes. The rapid law enforcement response forced the burglars to flee hastily, leaving behind the Portrait of Madame Colonna Romano and Young Woman at the Well missing while two other recovered canvases were found outside. Regional police confirmed an active investigation is underway to locate the suspects. Authorities have not yet publicly disclosed the specific titles of the two recovered artworks. The museum remains a key cultural site dedicated to the impressionist master who spent his final decades living and painting in the Mediterranean coastal town.
