The U.S. Department of Transportation approved a five-year exemption for Aurora Innovation and other autonomous trucking companies from traditional federal regulations that require human drivers to manually place reflective warning triangles around a stopped vehicle. Instead, autonomous trucks will be permitted to use modern roof-mounted warning beacons. Jointly requested by industry leaders, this regulatory milestone removes a key operational bottleneck, enabling the commercial scaling and deployment of driverless semi-trucks across American public highways without requiring human intervention for emergency signaling.

Amazon confirmed on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, that it cut fewer than one thousand corporate jobs, primarily affecting its Stores retail division which operates its main e-commerce website. The workforce reductions coincided with the start of the 'Prime Big Deal Days' promotional event and impacted employees across the United States, India, and the United Kingdom, particularly in customer service and selling partner services. This decision follows a larger restructuring that began last year involving approximately thirty thousand positions. Founder and executive chairman Jeff Bezos noted in a recent Fox News interview that ongoing adjustments are necessary to correct for overhiring during the pandemic. Industry analysts view the move as a strategic realignment toward high-tech investments like artificial intelligence infrastructure.

The Minnesota Vikings signed veteran wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. to their practice squad following his recent release from the New York Giants. While the move provides immediate depth for an offense navigating an ankle injury to star receiver Justin Jefferson, analysts point out that Beckham's arrival serves as a stern wake-up call and competitive message to wide receiver Jauan Jennings. Jennings signed a one-year, eight million dollar contract during the offseason but has produced only two catches for nine yards across his first three games. With head coach Kevin O'Connell familiar with Beckham from their time together with the Rams, the veteran receiver's integration into the roster increases pressure on underperforming pass-catchers as the Vikings maintain their undefeated start.

An unsealed lawsuit by the state of New York alleges that TikTok conducted experiments on thousands of users, including children and teenagers, providing them with a non-functioning placebo version of the Algo Refresh safety tool. While users believed they had activated a feature to refresh recommendations and avoid unwanted or potentially harmful content, their feeds remained unchanged. Internal documents cited in the lawsuit indicate that company employees raised ethical concerns about utilizing placebo groups for transparency features. The legal filing builds upon wider scrutiny regarding algorithm design, user safety, and the protection of minors on social media platforms.
