Zohran Mamdani’s surge to front-runner has energized New York City’s mayoral race, but voters remain split on whether the 34-year-old assemblyman is ready to run a $112 billion city government. Supporters tout free buses, a rent freeze, and his pledge to hire seasoned hands, backed by Gov. Kathy Hochul. Skeptics cite his thin résumé and polling showing 47 percent doubt his experience, even as he leads rivals including Andrew Cuomo. The stakes include soaring living costs, a potential budget shortfall, and President Trump’s threats to push immigration agents and national guardsman into cities and withhold federal funds if Mamdani enacts policies he opposes.

After Colorado’s second straight blowout loss Saturday night, head coach Deion Sanders barred media access to players and assistants, saying all criticism should target him. The Buffaloes lost 52-17 to Arizona a week after a 53-7 defeat to Utah and are now 3-6. “It’s on me,” Sanders said, adding he doesn’t know what’s going wrong. Asked if he doubts his ability to turn things around, he was emphatic: “I never doubt me… I’m built for this.”

Yoshinobu Yamamoto finished a grueling masterpiece, throwing 2 2/3 scoreless innings in extra frames to clinch the Dodgers’ 5-4 Game 7 win over the Blue Jays and a second straight title, one day after a 96-pitch Game 6. The World Series MVP escaped a bases-loaded ninth, breezed through the 10th, and stranded Vladimir Guerrero Jr. after Will Smith’s go-ahead 11th-inning homer. The 27-year-old went 3-0 with a 1.09 ERA in the Series, becoming the fourth pitcher to win Games 6 and 7, with his Game 7 cap bound for Cooperstown.

At the Republican Jewish Coalition’s Las Vegas conference, jubilation over a fragile Middle East ceasefire gave way to alarm about antisemitism simmering on the right. After Heritage Foundation leader Kevin Roberts defended Tucker Carlson’s podcast appearance by Nick Fuentes, speakers repeatedly urged the GOP to root out anti-Jewish voices. RJC chief Matthew Brooks warned of an undeclared civil war inside the party. Sen. Lindsey Graham mixed humor with a warning, while attendees cheered Donald Trump and credited him for the ceasefire and hostage releases. Still, many doubted the truce would last, citing demands on Hamas.

Will Smith’s 11th-inning blast lifted the Los Angeles Dodgers past the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 in a seesaw Game 7 in Toronto, making them the first repeat champions in 25 years. Smith hit the first extra-inning homer in a winner-take-all World Series game after Miguel Rojas’s stunning ninth-inning tie, also a Game 7 first. World Series MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto wriggled out of a bases-loaded jam, and the night ended on a 6-6-3 double play started by Mookie Betts, silencing a stunned Rogers Centre crowd.

As the shutdown entered week five, Vice President JD Vance said the White House had little power to help even as it held billions that could sustain SNAP. After a federal judge intervened, President Trump signaled he could use those funds, yet timing for benefits remains unclear. The administration has redirected money to shield the military and law enforcement while allowing anti-poverty programs — including SNAP, Head Start and home heating aid — to falter. Budget experts called some maneuvers unusual. Two courts found officials acted unlawfully, and one ordered emergency payments for SNAP this week.

Blue Origin’s New Glenn lit all seven BE-4 engines in a 38-second static fire at LC-36A on Oct. 30, reaching full thrust—about 3.9 million pounds—for 22 seconds after the rocket rolled out and stood up earlier in the week. The mission aims to carry Rocket Lab–built twin ESCAPADE probes for NASA, with launch targeted as soon as Nov. 9, pending checks. Risks remain: the first-stage recovery is unproven after a failed debut landing, the unusual loiter‑then‑Mars trajectory adds complexity, and the date could slip with any technical or regulatory snag.

Andrew Mountbatten Windsor, disgraced brother of King Charles III, has been told to leave his 30-room Royal Lodge for the king’s private Sandringham estate, part of an effort to insulate the monarchy from fallout over his ties to Jeffrey Epstein. The 65-year-old denies allegations, including those by Virginia Roberts Giuffre. He’s expected to move after the holidays; Charles will fund the relocation and provide a private stipend. Ex-wife Sarah Ferguson will not move to Sandringham at Charles’ expense. Despite a 75-year lease and costly renovations, Andrew is set to downsize to one of several estate properties.
