American shoppers face a pricier holiday season as LendingTree estimates President Donald Trump’s “liberation day” tariffs will add $40.6 billion to seasonal costs. Consumers would shoulder $28.6 billion—about $132 per shopper—while retailers absorb roughly $12 billion. Prices on select foods and consumer goods have already climbed, and more tariff-hit items are now reaching shelves after months in storage. Chief analyst Matt Schulz warned the squeeze could curb gift-giving or push some into debt. Electronics buyers face the steepest add-ons, averaging $186 per shopper; clothing and accessories add about $82.

Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud was ruled out of Sunday’s game against the Broncos with a concussion after a second-quarter hit. After scrambling on third down, he slid short of the marker and his head struck the turf following contact from cornerback Kris Abrams-Draine. Stroud lay briefly, then walked off under his own power to the medical tent and locker room. An initial unnecessary-roughness flag on Abrams-Draine was overturned on review. Backup Davis Mills entered. Before exiting, Stroud went 6-of-10 for 79 yards and led two drives into field-goal range. It was his second concussion, the first in December 2023.

New York’s marathon delivered drama and records. Kenya’s Benson Kipruto edged Alexander Mutiso by two hundredths of a second in a photo finish, winning in 2:08:09 as Albert Korir took third. Hellen Obiri shattered the 22-year course record, surging away from Sharon Lokedi to win in 2:19:51; Sheila Chepkirui also finished under the old mark, and Obiri earned a $50,000 bonus. Eliud Kipchoge placed 17th on his New York debut, completing his six-star majors set. In the wheelchair races, Marcel Hug and Susannah Scaroni defended their titles.

China will ease its export ban on automotive computer chips under a US China trade deal outlined by White House after Xi Jinping and Donald Trump met in South Korea. Beijing will ensure Nexperia’s China facilities resume shipments of legacy chips and pause export controls on rare earth minerals for a year. The US will lower tariffs tied to fentanyl imports as China pledges significant measures. China also committed to buy 12 million tonnes of US soybeans in the last two months of 2025 and 25 million tonnes annually for the next three years, easing trade tensions.

With a 33-day shutdown deepening, Sen. Tim Kaine said Democrats are focused on the American people, not political wins, urging President Trump to sit down for a budget deal leading to a health care fix. Democrats seek to extend expiring Affordable Care Act tax credits, while the White House pushes a short-term funding bill through Nov. 21 that has failed 13 times in the Senate. Kaine rejected GOP claims about 'illegal' immigrants and warned of mounting fallout, from air-traffic delays amid sickouts to SNAP funding in limbo despite a judge ordering it to continue.

After repeated forgetful grocery runs, the writer tested tools to fix meal planning. A Better Meal's photo and web recipe imports and stepwise cook along impressed but its subscription and discovery focus were a turnoff. Papier's handsome planner proved cramped. Paprika's one time fee, iOS and Android support, and flexible list building, plus a saved "The Regulars" recipe, clicked when paired with a smartwatch to quickly check off items. Without Wear OS support, Google Keep bridged the gap on Android. The hybrid system sped trips and kept lists intact.

ESPN fantasy football expert Eric Moody will field start/sit and roster questions in a live chat each Sunday of the NFL regular season, with the Week 9 session running from noon to 1 p.m. ET as eight early games near kickoff. Fans can ask about injury updates, flex choices and trade ideas, and tap resources like the Sunday inactives file, Week 9 Rankings and Mike Clay’s Playbook. Not every submission is posted; moderators curate to avoid repeats, and thousands of questions during the hour mean many won’t be answered.

A CBS News/YouGov survey finds Americans split over the Trump administration’s deportation program, with strong backing from Republicans and MAGA Republicans and less support among others. Approval, once higher earlier in President Trump’s term, has leveled since mid-summer and ticked up slightly from last month. Support hinges on whom people believe is targeted: backing rises when respondents think criminals are prioritized. Slightly more than half say ICE is too tough, and most oppose officers wearing masks. Many also believe Trump’s policies are reducing border crossings. The nationally representative survey of 2,124 adults ran October 29-31, 2025.

Tokyo woke to a crackling buzz as the Los Angeles Dodgers tapped Shohei Ohtani to start Game 7, and by the time Yoshinobu Yamamoto secured the final out, the city was jubilant. The Dodgers repeated as champions, edging the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 in 11 innings, rallying from 3-0 and 4-2 behind Miguel Rojas’s tying ninth-inning homer and Will Smith’s winner in the 11th. Ohtani had two hits and pitched; Yamamoto’s gutsy turns in Games 6 and 7 earned Series MVP. Fans packed a Tokyo restaurant, danced in Ohtani jerseys, and celebrated across Ohtani’s hometown of Oshu.

Living aboard the blue and white Zusje V, 25-year-old designer Lente Cuenen turned her boat-bound life into Spilled!, a $6, eco-minded game about vacuuming oil from waterways. By posting her story online, she cut through the noise on Steam; since March the indie has sold nearly 100,000 copies, netting her well beyond $425,000 even after the platform’s cut. She powers her floating home with solar and lithium batteries, works on a stickered MacBook, and says 10 cents from every copy will go to a cetacean conservation fund, insisting freedom matters more to her than money.
