Sofie Richie Grainge is expecting her second child with husband Elliot Grainge, announcing the news on Instagram Thursday, Oct. 16. The 27-year-old model shared a mirror selfie showing the silhouette of her bare bump, captioning it, “On my way to launch these babies” alongside a nod to @srgatelier. The couple, already parents to daughter Eloise, born in May 2024, have spoken tenderly about new parenthood: Richie Grainge praised confidence without makeup in a July 25 Vogue video and recently described balancing mom duties with a glam Met Gala night.

South Park’s season 28 premiere spotlighted a new schoolyard fixation: kids murmuring 'six, seven'—a phrase even a fictionalized Peter Thiel repeats as part of a secret South Park Elementary cult. The meme began with rapper Skrilla’s December 2024 track 'Doot Doot,' then exploded on TikTok via edits featuring 6-foot-7 LaMelo Ball and tweens chanting courtside. Online, 'six, seven' means nothing, yet functions as shorthand for confusion and ironic detachment—a symptom some dub internet rot. Like '404 Not Found' or 'Me when the,' it will likely fade, but the episode cements its moment.

Evan McPherson’s 36-yard field goal with seven seconds left lifted the Bengals past the Steelers, 33-31, at Paycor Stadium, capping an eight-play drive sparked by a deep Joe Flacco strike to Tee Higgins. Flacco, nine days into his Bengals stint, threw for 342 yards and three touchdowns, repeatedly finding Ja’Marr Chase, who set a franchise record with 16 catches for 161 yards and a score. Chase Brown added 108 rushing yards. Pittsburgh squandered an early 10-0 lead and a late Aaron Rodgers-to-Pat Freiermuth 68-yard go-ahead TD, then saw a final Hail Mary fall incomplete.

Indiana handed football coach Curt Cignetti an eight-year contract worth at least $92.8 million, signaling ambitions beyond its basketball reputation. The deal, averaging about $11.6 million annually through Nov. 30, 2033, rewards a 17-2 start that includes the program’s first College Football Playoff, AP Coach of the Year honors and a 30-20 win at No. 3 Oregon. Now 6-0 and ranked No. 3 — a program high — the Hoosiers also routed then-No. 9 Illinois 63-10. Leaders praised Cignetti’s results, while he urged staying “humble and hungry.”

On Lake Maracaibo, Venezuelan fishermen describe a growing dread as US forces patrol the Caribbean and carry out strikes on suspected drug boats, operations Washington links to Nicolás Maduro’s government. At least six strikes since last month have left 27 dead, with experts questioning their legality and the White House calling them self-defense. President Trump says he’s considering strikes inside Venezuela and has authorised CIA covert actions, amid protests and militia enlistment. Caracas warns of possible bombings and denounces threats, while crews hesitate to sail, fearing deadly mistakes.

Predicted to win easily, Pittsburgh instead trailed at the break as Cincinnati flipped a 10-0 hole into a 17-10 halftime lead. The Bengals outgained the Steelers 220-183 and picked off Aaron Rodgers twice on throws to DK Metcalf. Jordan Battle’s interception sparked a three-play, 76-yard touchdown drive, and DJ Turner’s spectacular pick set up Evan McPherson’s 49-yard field goal at the half. Pittsburgh’s miscues—a touchdown nullified by a holding penalty and a fourth-and-1 false start—stung. Joe Flacco tossed two scores; Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins caught one each. Cincinnati receives the second-half kickoff.

New York City’s three mayoral candidates traded sharp attacks in the first of two televised debates, clashing over crime, policing, affordability, housing, transit, the Trump administration and the Gaza ceasefire deal. Democrat Zohran Mamdani and independent Andrew Cuomo dominated exchanges, with Cuomo questioning Mamdani’s experience and denying past allegations, and Mamdani touting integrity while moving from defund-the-police to partnership with the NYPD. Republican Curtis Sliwa jabbed both while calling for more officers. A recent poll shows Mamdani ahead, and the final debate is set for Oct. 22 before voting begins Oct. 25.

Tim Robinson’s The Chair Company premiered Sunday with a splash, becoming HBO’s most-watched comedy series debut in over five years, drawing 1.4 million U.S. cross-platform viewers over its first three days. It also ranks among the top three comedy premieres in HBO Max history, alongside And Just Like That and Our Flag Means Death. The series follows Robinson’s William Ronald Trosper after a chair snaps during a key presentation, igniting a conspiracy chase. Separately, HBO’s Task keeps climbing, topping 4 million three-day viewers for its latest episode and averaging 6.7 million per episode, on pace with Mare of Easttown.

Toronto snapped Seattle’s early control with a thunderous Game 3: five home runs in a 13–4 win. Julio Rodríguez launched a two-run shot to start it and also crushed a Yesavage splitter that had never yielded an extra-base hit. With a franchise still yet to reach the World Series, Seattle now faces rising pressure and fragile hero narratives around Rodríguez, who discussed legacy and staying present before Game 4. Analysts warn against leaning on momentum or one swing, and against ignoring bullpens, matchups, and managerial decisions.

Award-winning astrophotographer Josh Dury captured Comet C/2025 A6 (Lemmon) over Somerset ahead of its Oct. 21 approach to Earth. His Oct. 12 Mendip Hills image shows a bright green coma and long diffuse tail, formed as solar heat drives sublimation and the solar wind pushes debris away from the sun. Working through haze and high wind, Dury photographed the scene. Now about magnitude +4.9, the comet may be visible to the naked eye from dark sites and should brighten before fading for over a thousand years.
