An alleged record-size Roman coin hoard in Wales has ignited a three-way dispute and fresh doubts. After detectorist David Moss turned in 15,000 coins to National Museum Cardiff, two nearby farmers filed legal claims, saying the find straddled a shared boundary. The museum placed the cache under a temporary heritage hold, delaying display and valuation. Meanwhile, independent experts, including a former British Museum numismatist, say early tests suggest a small portion may be replicas mixed into the hoard. Moss denies any wrongdoing. A museum briefing next month is rumored to share initial dating and address ownership.

The Knicks shook off a sluggish start to beat the Celtics 105-95 at the Garden, powered by a 42-14 second quarter and a deep bench to move to 2-0 under new coach Mike Brown. Jalen Brunson scored 31, Karl-Anthony Towns had 26 and 13 rebounds, with timely threes and energy off the bench. Boston, still without Jayson Tatum, committed nine first-half turnovers that fueled 15 transition points and never recovered. New York, minus Mitchell Robinson, dominated the glass by 16 and turned 21 offensive rebounds into 21 second-chance points.

With a December theatrical-plus-Netflix release looming, Stranger Things 5 faces reported behind-the-scenes friction. Multiple insiders cite creative clashes between the Duffer Brothers, who wanted a darker, more tragic finale, and Netflix executives pushing for something more fan-satisfying and rewatchable. Online chatter surged after Millie Bobby Brown and Finn Wolfhard briefly unfollowed each other, as leaked call sheets hinted at two alternate endings—one with a major character death, another a bittersweet reboot-style option. Netflix declined further comment, calling it the “most ambitious finale in television history.” A teaser is expected mid-November, with speculation it will confirm the chosen ending.

With Rogers Centre roaring, the Blue Jays cracked open a tied World Series Game 1, unleashing a nine-run sixth to beat the Dodgers 11-4. Daulton Varsho’s fourth-inning, two-run homer erased an early L.A. lead, and after a spent Blake Snell loaded the bases, Toronto feasted on a thin bullpen. Emmet Sheehan faltered, Anthony Banda entered, and pinch-hitter Addison Barger launched the first pinch-hit grand slam in Series history, before Alejandro Kirk added a two-run shot. Shohei Ohtani later homered, but the damage was done. Toronto leads the best-of-seven 1-0, with Game 2 Saturday night at Rogers Centre.

On Prime Video’s first NBA broadcast, Commissioner Adam Silver said he was “deeply disturbed” by federal gambling indictments involving Terry Rozier and Chauncey Billups, stressing the league’s commitment to competitive integrity. Silver explained the NBA had investigated aberrational betting flagged from a March 2023 game, found insufficient evidence, and noted Rozier cooperated by handing over his phone. The league has since worked with law enforcement; Rozier is now on administrative leave. Citing the government’s broader powers, Silver said the NBA will wait as the case proceeds, balancing people’s rights with protecting the game.

Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc surged to the front of the U.S. box office, pacing $8–$9 million Friday from 3,003 theaters and a better-than-expected $14–$15 million opening, after $3.4 million in Thursday previews. The R-rated MAPPA release holds a 100% critics score and 99% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes and five stars on PostTrak, and has already earned north of $64 million globally. Black Phone 2, Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere, and Regretting You are clustered for No. 2 at $9–$12 million, while the Dodgers–Blue Jays World Series may influence weekend traffic.

Internal Interior Department drafts obtained by CBS News show the Trump administration is moving to auction offshore drilling leases in new areas as soon as 2026, including waters off New England, the Carolinas and California. The push follows a formal move to reopen 1.56 million acres in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, drawing sharp Democratic criticism and bipartisan resistance from coastal governors. Documents note state opposition and outline potential sales in the Beaufort Sea by 2026 and California by 2027. The Interior Department plans to release a proposal soon, with multiple public comment periods to follow.

The Pentagon acknowledged receiving an anonymous $130 million gift to help cover service members’ salaries and benefits during the shutdown, accepted under its general gift acceptance authority. Chief spokesperson Sean Parnell said the donor required the funds be used for troops’ pay, and expressed gratitude. Trump, calling the donor a “patriot,” announced the contribution at the White House. Yet the sum is a fraction of the roughly $6.5 billion needed per pay cycle. In the Senate, competing measures to pay military and other workers—one GOP-backed, one from Democrats—both failed to advance.

In Buffalo, principal Brianna Lanoye’s repeated wish to invite her entire school to her wedding turned into a heartfelt surprise. Days before her real ceremony, staff dressed her in a makeshift gown and led her into the Buffalo Academy of Science courtyard, where more than 400 students and staff watched Lanoye and fiancé Zach Klapp exchange vows and candy ring pops, with a student officiating. Lanoye, blown away, laughed at teasing that she loves students most, calling the moment everything she wanted and hoping they felt just as loved.
