UFC heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall will undergo further eye tests after his title defense against Ciryl Gane at UFC 321 ended in a no contest. Gane accidentally poked the Briton in both eyes while throwing a punch late in round one of the Abu Dhabi headliner. Aspinall told referee Jason Herzog, “I can’t see,” and the bout was waved off, leaving him champion. He was taken to hospital and skipped the post-fight news conference. The 32-year-old, who endured major knee surgery in 2022, later called the sport “dangerous” and said eye injuries feel “way scarier.”

US stock futures rose Sunday after US and Chinese representatives agreed on a trade-deal framework that could avert tariffs up to 157%, while investors bet on a rate cut. Dow, S&P 500 and Nasdaq futures gained 0.65%, 0.74% and 0.92%. The Dow closed above 47,000 Friday after CPI showed inflation heated up but less than expected. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent voiced optimism ahead of a Thursday Trump–Xi meeting in South Korea, hinting at a deferral on rare-earth export controls. The prospective deal may bring relief to farmers, notably soybean growers, after China halted US purchases in May.

A Jets celebration in Cincinnati ended a day that began on a somber note. Longtime center Nick Mangold died at 41 after battling kidney disease, and head coach Aaron Glenn opened his postgame remarks by remembering him as “the heart and soul of the team.” Glenn, who scouted during Mangold’s 11 Jets seasons, offered prayers to Mangold’s family and called him “a true Jet.” Mangold, a two-time All-Pro and member of the team’s Ring of Honor, will likely be honored further when the Jets return home after their Week 9 bye.

The winless Jets roared back Sunday to edge the Bengals 39-38 in Cincinnati, their first victory under first-year coach Aaron Glenn. Breece Hall ran for two scores and, with under two minutes left, threw a four-yard touchdown to Mason Taylor. Justin Fields, back under center after last week’s benching, threw for 244 yards as New York piled up 502 yards; a replay-overturned two-point pass to Isaiah Davis proved crucial. Joe Flacco had 223 yards and two TDs, but Cincinnati—now 3-5—blew leads of 31-16 and 38-24 before a final Jets stop sealed the comeback amid defensive lapses.

Breece Hall powered a stunning Jets comeback in Cincinnati, rushing for two second-half touchdowns and, with 1:54 left, floating a 4-yard score to Mason Taylor to seal a 39-38 win—their first of the season. Justin Fields threw for 244 yards and a TD as New York, missing Garrett Wilson and Sauce Gardner, piled up 502 yards, including 254 on the ground. Joe Flacco accounted for three Bengals touchdowns, but Cincinnati fell to 3-5 amid boos. The victory gave coach Aaron Glenn his first win and came the same weekend Nick Mangold died at 41.

The Navy began evacuating hundreds of U.S. citizens and their pets from Guantánamo Bay to Florida as Hurricane Melissa threatened eastern Cuba. With more than 4,000 people on the base, commanders ordered rolling departures starting Friday, expanding Saturday to non-mission-essential civilians. Four charter jets and a C-17 from Charleston were slated to move about 1,000 people this weekend. Families, some pushing strollers and carrying dogs, lined up in the heat for flights to Miami for CBP processing. Activities were canceled as projections showed Melissa reaching the base before dawn Wednesday.

President Donald Trump is pushing ahead with a $300 million plan to build a White House ballroom, mounting a campaign-style fundraising drive led by his former campaign finance chief, Meredith O’Rourke. Her team is approaching executives, corporations, and Republican lobbyists who backed Trump’s 2024 campaign and inauguration, according to people familiar with the effort. The high-profile, controversial project is being pitched as a chance to support what Trump has described as his gift to the country.

The Ravens’ erroneous listing of Lamar Jackson as a full participant, when he was limited on Friday, has prompted other teams to revisit injury-report procedures. One source said owners must tell coaches to stop using the report as a competitive tool of limited value. The NFL’s policy prioritizes full, fair information to preserve public confidence and integrity, and, with the NBA’s still-new scandal as backdrop, competitive interests are expected to take a back seat. Teams are being reminded: know the rules, and follow them.

Erich Richter of The Post lays out his NFL Week 8 picks against the spread, backing Giants +7 over the Eagles (with A.J. Brown out), Jets +6.5 over the Bengals, Packers -3.5 as his biggest edge, plus Bills -7.5, Patriots -7, Ravens -7.5, Falcons -7.5, 49ers +2.5, Buccaneers -3.5, Broncos -3 and Colts -14.5. For Monday, he takes Chiefs -11.5 over the Commanders. Richter went 5-9 last week and is 43-56 this season.

The USDA said Saturday it will not issue November food benefits amid the federal shutdown, now in its 25th day, saying "the well has run dry," as Congress remains at an impasse. The announcement followed a push by more than 200 House Democrats to use emergency reserves, but a memo seen by Reuters indicated the department will not draw on them. Over 41 million people rely on payments, with dependence reaching 21% in New Mexico. Sharon Parrott of the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities criticized the Trump administration, and Louisiana and Virginia declared emergencies to bolster hunger relief.
