Disney+ has ended its Doctor Who partnership with the BBC, leaving much of the world seeking a new streaming home for the series. The BBC says the show will continue, with a 2026 Christmas special written by Russell T Davies, and plans for the next series to come. Disney+ will keep the two Gatwa-led seasons, related specials, and the spinoff The War Between the Land and the Sea in territories where it carries the show. Gatwa’s run ended with a regeneration into Rose Tyler; casting remains unconfirmed.

Nvidia plans to invest $1 billion in Nokia, taking a 2.9% stake as the Finnish company shifts from mobile networking kit toward artificial intelligence. Nokia will issue about 166 million shares to Nvidia at $6.01 each, the companies said Tuesday. Nvidia’s chips will accelerate Nokia’s software for 5G and 6G networks, and the firms will explore using Nokia’s data center technology in Nvidia’s AI infrastructure. Nokia shares jumped, marking their biggest rise in more than a decade.

AMD has quietly reassigned model numbers to a range of Ryzen laptop chips without altering the silicon, adding fresh labels to 2022-vintage parts. The rebranded processors use Rembrandt‑R (Zen 3+ CPU, RDNA 2 graphics) or Mendocino (Zen 2, RDNA 2), with Rembrandt‑R marking its second rename since debuting as Ryzen 6000. The move slots into a four-tier lineup—Ryzen AI 300, Ryzen 200, Ryzen 100, and two‑digit Ryzen/Athlon—while competing against Intel’s non‑Ultra Core 100 chips. Performance remains serviceable, but the expanding nomenclature risks confusing buyers and keeping truly new features at premium prices.

U.S. home-price growth cooled in August, rising 1.5% year over year versus 1.6% in July, the Case‑Shiller index shows, trailing 3% inflation and marking a fourth straight month of real equity erosion. Nearly all metros fell month to month except Chicago. Stubbornly high mortgage rates—hovering above 6.5% over summer—dampened demand despite slight declines to 6.19% now. New York led annual gains; Tampa, Phoenix and Miami posted drops, with broader weakness in Western cities. An FHFA gauge rose 2.3% annually and 0.4% monthly, hinting at tentative stabilization.

Paul Thomas Anderson's action epic One Battle After Another leads Gotham Awards with six nominations—the most in the awards' history—including best feature and acting nods for Benicio Del Toro, Teyana Taylor, and breakthrough performer Chase Infiniti. Its $130 million-plus budget underscores the group's scrapped cap, placing the film alongside smaller indies among 10 best feature contenders such as Hamnet and If I Had Legs I'd Kick You. Jessie Buckley headlines the gender-neutral lead acting slate, while Jacob Elordi and Adam Sandler are up in supporting. Notable omissions include Sentimental Value. Winners will be announced Dec. 1 in New York.

Chris Evans is officially a dad. The 44-year-old “Captain America” actor and his wife, Alba Baptista, welcomed their first child over the weekend, with TMZ reporting the baby arrived Saturday in Massachusetts. No name or sex has been shared, and reps for the couple did not return requests for comment. Evans had said in November 2024 that he “absolutely” wanted children, calling “dad” an exciting title. The pair, who went public in 2022 and wed last year with ceremonies in Portugal and Massachusetts, have otherwise kept details close.

Eleven people, mostly foreign tourists, died when a Mombasa Air Safari plane crashed in Kwale, Kenya, early Tuesday en route to the Maasai Mara. The airline said eight Hungarian and two German passengers and the Kenyan pilot were killed. The aircraft went down in a hilly, forested area about 25 miles from Diani airstrip; the pilot failed to make contact after departure, and controllers tried to reach him for 30 minutes. Investigators are probing the cause amid rainy, misty conditions. The wreckage burned, and witnesses reported a loud bang.

Apple is developing solid-state buttons to replace mechanical controls on the 20th‑anniversary iPhone due in 2027, claims Weibo leaker Instant Digital. The purported “iPhone XX” would introduce haptic Side, volume, Action, and Camera Control buttons that have completed functional verification, mimicking real clicks while distinguishing light and firm presses. The design reportedly integrates the buttons into the frame and could use vibration-based audio with AI sound compensation. The rumor aligns with reports of a borderless, wraparound display, though the revived “Project Bongo” remains unconfirmed.

Elon Musk launched Grokipedia, an AI encyclopedia he says aligns more with his rightwing views than Wikipedia, even as many entries cite Wikipedia. With no human authors, pages are “fact-checked” by Grok, his chatbot; Musk credits the idea to David Sacks. A critic of “mainstream media,” he urges reliance on X. Early entries echo conservative talking points: the January 6 Capitol article cites “widespread claims of voting irregularities” — a lie pushed by Donald Trump and his allies — and downplays Donald Trump’s role. Journalists have accused Grokipedia of inaccuracies, including a claim that pornography worsened the Aids epidemic.

At their first lunch Tuesday, President Trump and new Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi served American rice and beef—an unusual choice in Japan, where rice is a cultural staple and a current political flash point amid shortages and soaring prices. Analysts said the menu was a goodwill signal and a nod to July’s U.S.-Japan deal to boost American rice imports by 75 percent; the U.S. ambassador said it showed the partnership had "deeply permeated all fields." Some online commenters lamented the swap. The meal also featured eggplant from Takaichi’s Nara, and a retailer said the switch is a culinary nonissue.
