Mahershala Ali stars in action thriller exploring faith, family and motherhood

Actor Mahershala Ali and filmmaker Bassam Tariq premiered their new action thriller film, Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother, at the Toronto International Film Festival. Ali stars as Latif, a devout Muslim contract killer navigating single fatherhood following the death of his beloved wife. The title is derived from an Islamic hadith emphasizing the profound importance of motherhood within society. The project reunites Ali and Tariq after their previous collaboration on a Marvel Studios Blade reboot ultimately fell apart during development. The production features a supporting cast that includes John Cho as a Texas pastor and former Army veteran, alongside Giancarlo Esposito and Tramell Tillman. Amazon MGM Studios has scheduled the feature film for a commercial release in United States theaters on September 25. The narrative draws inspiration from Tariq's upbringing and is deeply rooted in Black American Muslim cultural experiences.
