Norwegian middle-distance runner Jakob Ingebrigtsen withdrew from the 1,500-meter race at track's Ultimate Championship in Budapest, Hungary, citing physical strain and recovery needs. The announcement came less than 24 hours after Ingebrigtsen defeated Olympic champion Cole Hocker in the 5,000 meters to claim a 150,000 dollar prize on the opening night of the competition. Ingebrigtsen, who underwent Achilles tendon surgery in February, explained that competing in two major races within a compressed three-day window proved excessive given his ongoing rehabilitation timeline. His withdrawal removes a marquee tactical showdown featuring top rivals Cole Hocker and Josh Kerr, whose ongoing rivalry has defined international middle-distance racing.
