UAE revises AI data center plan after Iranian attacks, sources say

The United Arab Emirates has revised its artificial intelligence data center infrastructure strategy following regional Iranian missile and drone attacks that damaged cloud facilities in March. Emirati officials began reviewing project security after strikes impacted two Amazon Web Services data centers in the UAE and one in Bahrain. In April, Iranian military media identified the American-backed Stargate UAE complex as a potential target, prompting adjustments to protect sensitive installations. While initial construction phases will proceed with added structural protections, subsequent project development will decentralize across multiple geographic locations. Planners are evaluating subterranean facilities inside northern mountain ranges and incorporating advanced air defense systems, electronic jamming equipment, blast-resistant concrete, and redundant utility networks. The strategic shift follows warnings from former U.S. officials regarding economic risks to regional tech hubs. Major corporate partners including Nvidia, Oracle, Cisco, and SoftBank have not issued public statements regarding the security modifications.
