Detroit Red Wings Strip Dylan Larkin of Captaincy Following Summer Trade Request

The Detroit Red Wings announced that forward Dylan Larkin has been officially stripped of his team captaincy ahead of the upcoming 2026-27 National Hockey League season following a summer trade request. The organization confirmed the decision via an official statement, stating the franchise will begin the season without any player wearing the captain emblem. Larkin, thirty, has spent his entire professional career with Detroit after being drafted in 2014 and became the thirty-seventh captain in franchise history in January 2021. In a released statement, Larkin confirmed he will report to training camp at Little Caesars Arena following multiple discussions with executive leadership regarding his future. General Manager Steve Yzerman transitioned into a senior advisor role over the summer, leaving the front office without a permanent leader. Management stated that decisions regarding a future captain are deferred until new hockey operations leadership is officially established.
