Silver Lake, Intel-backed Altera prepares IPO that could raise over $2 billion as early as 2026, sources say

PUBLISHED Sep 10, 2026, 4:25 PM ET

Chipmaker Altera, backed by Silver Lake and Intel, is preparing for an initial public offering to raise over two billion dollars as early as 2026. Silver Lake has enlisted Barclays, Citi, JPMorgan, and Morgan Stanley to underwrite the offering, with a confidential regulatory filing expected in the coming weeks. The San Jose-based company operates as a standalone entity following Intel's sale of a fifty-one percent stake last year for four point four six billion dollars, while Intel retains a forty-nine percent stake. Chief Executive Raghib Hussain previously signaled public market ambitions as the company expands in artificial intelligence and robotics. This prospective listing would mark one of the largest semiconductor market debuts since Arm Holdings raised nearly five billion dollars in 2023. The offering coincides with a broader expansion of U.S. capital markets and supports Intel restructuring efforts under CEO Lip-Bu Tan to strengthen finances and fund manufacturing growth.
