South Park Creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone Put $100 Million Kendrick Lamar Movie on Ice

South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone have issued a formal apology after their high-budget musical film collaboration with rapper Kendrick Lamar was shelved by Paramount Pictures. The untitled musical comedy project, known internally at the studio as Whitney Springs, featured a substantial production budget estimated between seventy million and one hundred fifty million dollars. Written by South Park writer Vernon Chatman, the movie centered on the complex topic of slavery reparations and included original music produced by Kendrick Lamar. The film faced multiple major scheduling delays, moving from an initial July 2025 theatrical release to March 2026 before being completely removed from production slates. Parker and Stone released a joint statement accepting full responsibility for the scheduling delays and expressed gratitude to their creative partners at pgLang and Paramount. Industry analysts note the cancellation highlights growing studio caution regarding expensive satirical projects dealing with highly sensitive cultural subjects.
