US Backs Kenya Rare Earths

The United States government committed to helping Kenya develop a domestic critical minerals processing industry to secure global supply chains and counter foreign dominance. Assistant Secretary of State Frank Garcia announced the partnership during a meeting with the American Chamber of Commerce in Nairobi. The strategic initiative targets Kenya's coastal Mrima Hill deposit, which contains multi-billion-dollar reserves of rare earth elements and niobium used in advanced aerospace and technology manufacturing. Two U.S. consortia are among the leading bidders competing for the project rights. President William Ruto stated that the collaboration prioritizes local processing and value addition to accelerate regional job growth. The U.S. International Development Finance Corporation is backing the mineral pipeline to reduce American corporate dependency on overseas processing hubs. Industry analysts noted that the agreement strengthens bilateral ties while reshaping East African industrial policy, forcing foreign partners to invest directly in local beneficiation infrastructure rather than simply extracting raw materials for export abroad.
