Stellantis CEO highlights diverging US and global strategies

Stellantis Chief Executive Officer Antonio Filosa stated during a Thursday analyst conference that the global automotive market is splitting between the United States and international regions. Speaking at the event, Filosa addressed how regulatory frameworks and consumer demand inside the United States diverge sharply from other markets, particularly regarding partnerships with Chinese automakers. Stellantis relies entirely on domestic engineering and development for its U.S. operations, which serve as its primary profit engine behind core brands like Jeep and Ram. In contrast, the company collaborates with Chinese manufacturers such as Leapmotor and Dongfeng in Europe and other international territories. Filosa emphasized that these foreign partnerships do not serve as production models for the U.S. market, where regulatory and political pressures surrounding Chinese joint ventures remain intense. The Trump administration and federal officials have previously criticized other domestic automakers, including Ford Motor, for pursuing similar international collaborations with Chinese firms.
