Nagoya mayor rules out Asian Games disruption after flood forces evacuation

Nagoya Mayor Ichiro Hirosawa ruled out any disruption to the upcoming Asian Games following heavy rainfall that battered the Japanese city and forced the temporary evacuation of hundreds of people. Torrential downpours flooded local roads and caused water leaks at several multi-sport venues ahead of the scheduled September 19 to October 4 event. Approximately 400 individuals, including athletes and staff housed in temporary container units, were evacuated as water levels rose, though all returned safely with no injuries reported. Speaking to reporters, Hirosawa stated that the situation was not severe enough to jeopardize the opening ceremony and expressed confidence that the games would proceed without delay. Organizers noted that while venue roofs leaked, inspections are ongoing to fully evaluate conditions outside the immediate city center. The event remains on schedule as officials continue monitoring weather patterns and venue readiness ahead of the opening competition date.
