TCU Restores Credentials to Fort Worth Star-Telegram
PUBLISHED Sep 4, 2026, 11:56 PM ET
Texas Christian University fully restored media credentials to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, ending a 12-day ban imposed on the newspaper following a dispute over coverage of a football team locker room altercation. TCU Athletics announced the reversal in an official statement, emphasizing respect for the publication's role as an independent community voice. The credential revocation originally occurred on August 23, 2026, after the newspaper reported on an August 13 physical altercation between former TCU safety Jacob Fields and wide receiver Dozie Ezukanma. University officials had defended the ban by claiming the initial reporting relied on an unnamed source and generated threats against the student-athlete and his family. Despite losing official access, the Star-Telegram continued its coverage, revealing that Ezukanma suffered a concussion and brain bleed during the incident. The decision to revoke access drew widespread condemnation from journalism organizations, including the Football Writers Association of America and the Dallas-Fort Worth Association of Black Journalists. Following recent discussions between university leadership and newsroom representatives, both parties reached a resolution to move forward ahead of upcoming home games.
