Congressman joins fight to save Kips Bay AMC

New York City officials and community members are mounting a campaign to prevent the permanent closure of the AMC Kips Bay 15 multiplex in Manhattan. The theater, operating since 1999, faces shutdown by the end of the year after NYU Langone Health acquired the underlying property. Congressman Jerry Nadler and Assemblyman Keith Powers signed a formal letter urging the health system to preserve the venue. More than 8,400 individuals have signed a digital petition advocating for the cinema's survival. Although no formal closure date has been established by property owners or corporate operators, the potential shuttering would reduce Manhattan's remaining AMC theater portfolio to eight locations. Local stakeholders emphasize the cultural significance of the venue amidst ongoing commercial real estate conversions across the borough.
