Queiroz re-appointed Ghana coach two months after stepping down

Carlos Queiroz has been re-appointed as Ghana’s head coach, the Ghana Football Association said Wednesday, ending weeks of uncertainty after his previous mandate expired following the 2026 World Cup. The 73-year-old Portuguese coach will begin a new mandate during the next international window, although the GFA has not disclosed its duration or detailed terms. Queiroz previously coached Iran, Portugal, Colombia and Egypt and guided Ghana to the World Cup’s Round of 32 after taking charge only months before the tournament. The GFA said his international experience, technical expertise and knowledge of the Black Stars supported the decision. Ghana’s next competitive programme is the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign. CAF lists Ghana in Group C with Côte d’Ivoire, The Gambia and Somalia, with qualifying matchdays beginning Sept. 21. The first window runs through Oct. 6. The GFA said further details of Queiroz’s mandate and programme will follow on Wednesday.
