Defending champion Carlos Alcaraz overcame a sluggish start to defeat Portugal's Jaime Faria 4-6, 6-0, 6-3, 6-2 at the US Open, advancing to the tournament's third round. Seeded second, Alcaraz entered the Grand Slam event following a four-month layoff due to a wrist injury sustained in April that forced him to miss both Roland Garros and Wimbledon. The 72nd-ranked Faria capitalized on early errors in the opening set to secure a 4-3 lead and eventually take the frame.
