The United States deported dozens of Haitian nationals to Cap-Haïtien via an Immigration and Customs Enforcement charter flight originating from Louisiana. Among those aboard was Renan Hédouville, a former senior Haitian government official and human rights ombudsman facing corruption allegations, who was arrested during a routine green card interview in Alabama and requested a voluntary return. This operation marks the third removal flight to Haiti in three weeks, following a Supreme Court ruling that enabled the administration to terminate Temporary Protected Status for over 300,000 Haitians despite ongoing legal challenges. The flights have drawn sharp criticism from immigrant advocacy groups over Department of Homeland Security social media posts depicting shackled deportees. These removals occur amid escalating political instability and severe gang violence across Haiti, including recent massacres and abductions near Port-au-Prince. Legal challenges to the termination of protected status remain pending in federal courts.
