Two Minneapolis police officers and multiple civilians sustained gunshot wounds during an active shooter incident in downtown Minneapolis on Wednesday afternoon. The gunfire erupted near Loring Park, prompting an immediate and heavy deployment of municipal police, SWAT vehicles, and federal agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Minnesota Governor Tim Walz confirmed that state public safety teams mobilized to secure the area and support local law enforcement response efforts. Authorities cordoned off surrounding streets while tactical teams secured a multi-story apartment complex where the suspect was believed to be barricaded. Law enforcement officials reported that the wounded officers suffered injuries to the shin and abdomen, with all victims receiving hospital treatment. First responders urged residents and commuters to avoid the affected downtown corridor as the investigation remained active. Federal law enforcement partners joined local authorities to process the scene and determine the sequence of events leading to the violent confrontation.
