Ureña's stellar start helps Angels end skid with win vs. Yankees

Tap title to read story

Right-hander Walbert Ureña delivered seven scoreless frames with a career-high-tying eight strikeouts, guiding the Los Angeles Angels to a 10-1 victory over the New York Yankees at Angel Stadium on Monday. Ureña surrendered just one run on five hits and zero walks, halting a dismal seven-game losing streak for the Anaheim club. The dominant bounce-back performance improved Ureña's season record to 9-9 while lowering his ERA to 2.85 across 25 total appearances, including 23 starts. The victory provided crucial momentum for the Angels following a stretch of back-to-back struggles where the right-hander allowed six runs over his previous 8.3 innings. New York's offense stalled against Ureña's precise command, failing to capitalize on early opportunities as the Angels' bats broke out for ten runs to secure the series opener. The triumph shifts team morale in Anaheim as the franchise seeks stability down the stretch of the regular season.
