Kanye West Ex-Staffer Moves to Block Rapper's Insanity Defense in Donda Academy Lawsuit

Former Donda Academy employee Benjamin Provo has filed a legal motion in Los Angeles asking a court to prohibit Kanye West from asserting an unsound mind defense in an employment discrimination lawsuit. Provo filed his original complaint in 2021, alleging he faced race-based discrimination and wrongful termination after refusing to cut his dreadlocks. In the newly submitted court filing from September 1, 2026, Provo argues West should be barred from claiming mental incapacity because he failed to disclose supporting medical records or expert witnesses during the discovery phase. Provo maintains that introducing mental state arguments at this late stage prejudices the plaintiff. Meanwhile, West's legal representatives have separately requested the exclusion of historical social media posts from trial, arguing they are irrelevant to daily school operations. Donda Academy has faced multiple civil suits from former staff alleging labor violations before suspending operations. The Los Angeles County Superior Court has not yet ruled on Provo's motion.
