Minnesota Supreme Court Rejects Mike Lindell’s GOP Primary Recount Bid

PUBLISHED Aug 29, 2026, 11:37 PM ET

The Minnesota Supreme Court issued a written ruling denying a legal challenge filed by MyPillow founder Mike Lindell regarding the structure of a recount for the August primary election. Chief Justice Natalie Hudson signed the decision, which rejected Lindell's attempt to broaden the scope of a recount beyond the framework established byeté Secretary of State Office. Lindell lost the Republican primary for governor to House Speaker Lisa Demuth by approximately forty-five thousand votes, representing an eleven-point margin. Because the margin exceeded the automatic recount threshold, any recount required upfront candidate funding. Lindell missed a Monday deadline to formally request and pay for the recount while pursuing ongoing litigation. In his court filings, Lindell demanded a full hand count of all ballots cast and redone tallies for every candidate. The state-approved plan focused hand counts specifically on Lindell and Demuth. Justices affirmed Demuth's general election ballot placement.
