US and Venezuela Ink 25-Year Energy Mega-Deal

PUBLISHED Aug 29, 2026, 11:59 PM ET

Venezuelan interim President Delcy Rodriguez announced that a new bilateral energy agreement with the United States will remain in force for twenty five years. Speaking in Caracas, Rodriguez stated that the historic accord targets crude output of one point five million barrels daily across seventeen strategic oilfields. The announcement follows statements by United States President Donald Trump outlining plans for Washington to take partial control of Venezuelan oil reserves through a joint partnership. Trump asserted the arrangement secures majority control over sixty five billion barrels of proven reserves to help revive the energy sector and lower consumer fuel costs. Based on a benchmark price of sixty five dollars per barrel, the agreement could generate two hundred nine billion dollars in revenue. Energy experts note that repairing dilapidated infrastructure will require substantial multi billion dollar investments and significant time before impacting retail fuel markets across the United States of America today.
