Truist Financial Corporation and Fifth Third Bancorp have suspended the distribution and sale of insurance and annuity products linked to billionaire Mark Walter’s Delaware Life Insurance Company. The pause follows an unfolding federal investigation into the insurer’s asset disclosures and private credit investments. Grand jury subpoenas issued by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York and the SEC have targeted Delaware Life and its affiliate Clear Spring Life. Investigators are reviewing approximately twenty billion dollars in private credit transactions and related party loans. Earlier, Delaware Life restated financial statements, revealing that affiliated assets accounted for nearly forty percent of invested capital rather than the initially reported three percent. Consequently, major ratings agencies lowered their outlooks on the insurer. TWG Global stated that no fraud occurred and submitted a compliance plan to regulators. Representatives for Delaware Life and regional lenders continue coordinating with clients amid intense scrutiny.
