British actor Jack Barton has reportedly emerged as an unexpected frontrunner to star as James Bond in the upcoming film franchise installment directed by Denis Villeneuve. According to Page Six, casting director Nina Gold selected Barton from a diverse field of candidates following an extensive United Kingdom talent search. Actor Barton joins a shortlisted group of contenders that includes Jacob Elordi, Paul Mescal, Callum Turner, Jack Lowden, and Harris Dickinson. Screen tests are scheduled to begin in early September to find Daniel Craig’s successor. Barton’s previous acting credits include supporting roles in Netflix’s Heartstopper and the historical drama series SAS: Rogue Heroes, alongside a minor appearance in Poor Things. Representatives for Amazon MGM Studios have declined to officially confirm the casting shortlist or provide a definitive production timeline. The upcoming project represents a major career shift for the lesser known British performer seeking international cinematic stardom right now in Hollywood.
