Canadian guard Bennedict Mathurin has agreed to a two-year, sixteen-million-dollar contract with the New Orleans Pelicans, featuring a player option for the second season. The agreement follows the withdrawal of an eight-point-eight-million-dollar qualifying offer from the Los Angeles Clippers, where Mathurin was previously a restricted free agent. The move provides Mathurin with a direct path to unrestricted free agency next summer. The New Orleans front office pursued the guard for over a year, integrating him into a young roster that includes Zion Williamson, Trey Murphy, Derik Queen, and Jeremiah Fears. Selected sixth overall in the twenty-twenty-two NBA Draft, Mathurin was traded to Los Angeles at the February deadline. Across fifty-four games split between the Pacers and Clippers last season, he averaged seventeen point six points, five point four rebounds, and two point four assists per contest.
