The Houston Astros terminated General Manager Dana Brown following a devastating seven to six loss to the Athletics on August twenty-fourth, after blowing a six to zero lead. Owner Jim Crane announced the departure, which was officially framed as a mutual contract termination despite reports confirming a firing. Concurrently, manager Joe Espada was informed he will not receive a contract extension for the upcoming season, though he opted to remain through the remainder of the year on an interim basis. The decision follows a dismal two and six homestand against division rivals, dropping Houston to sixty-five and sixty-six overall. Despite the sub-five hundred record, the club remains tied for first place in the American League West. Crane will directly oversee baseball operations supported by special advisor Jeff Bagwell and three assistant general managers until a permanent executive search commences during the upcoming offseason.
