GKN Aerospace Establishes $100M Fund Over Garden Grove Chemical Leak

Orange County prosecutors have declined to file criminal charges against GKN Aerospace Transparency Systems following a May chemical leak at its Garden Grove plant. The incident involved a cooling system failure in a storage tank containing neutralized methyl methacrylate, forcing massive evacuations across Garden Grove and Stanton. Over fifty thousand residents across nearly seventeen thousand households were displaced for almost a week until a tank crack relieved pressure. In response, GKN agreed to establish a one hundred million dollar independent claims program to reimburse impacted residents and businesses for lodging, meals, transportation, and lost wages. Orange County officials previously demanded over four million dollars to cover emergency response costs. While local criminal investigations concluded without indictments, a separate federal inquiry remains ongoing. The facility targets a September reopening date, subject to strict court-approved safety plans and regulatory monitoring protocols.
