Tropical Storm Moke formed in the Pacific Ocean on Friday, placing Hawaii under a severe weather alert while still recovering from Hurricane Lala. The National Hurricane Center reported the system is located about five hundred miles southeast of Hilo, moving toward the islands at twelve miles per hour with maximum sustained winds reaching forty five miles per hour. Heavy rainfall and strong winds are projected to impact the Hawaiian islands from late Saturday through Tuesday. Southeastern and windward regions anticipate five to ten inches of rain, with isolated spots receiving up to fifteen inches. This severe weather threatens areas already saturated from Hurricane Lala, which recently dropped over forty inches of precipitation. Approximately eleven thousand customers remain without power from the previous storm. Governor Josh Green urged residents to maintain fourteen day emergency supplies as state crews work urgently to restore electrical infrastructure before severe flooding strikes vulnerable local communities.
