Trump's profits irk Americans as Dems test anti-corruption message

PUBLISHED Aug 19, 2026, 4:40 PM ET

A Reuters/Ipsos poll released August 19, 2026, shows 63% of Americans believe President Trump and his family inappropriately profited from cryptocurrency ventures, including a memecoin that generated over $1 billion. Nearly 70% of respondents, including 48% of Republicans, say Trump's private business interests influence presidential decisions. The survey of 4,145 adults has a margin of error of ±1.7 percentage points. The Trump family's World Liberty Financial platform, which has partnered with Hong Kong-based WorldClaw offering Chinese AI models, is under scrutiny as regulators approved its trust bank charter. Senator Chuck Schumer has launched an anti-corruption initiative proposing an independent bureau. The White House has not responded to Axios' request for comment, though Trump previously stated "nobody cared" about his family's foreign business dealings during his first term. Bipartisan anger over corruption reached 92% among Republicans, 95% among Democrats, and 87% among Independents in the poll.
