Trump Threatens to Bomb Oman Over Strait of Hormuz
President Donald Trump threatened Monday to bomb Oman if it interferes with U.S. efforts involving Iran and the Strait of Hormuz, according to Fox News correspondent Trey Yingst. Trump made the remarks during an interview as a 60-day U.S.-Iran memorandum expired without an agreement. Iran’s Foreign Ministry said Tehran and Oman had reached an understanding on a transit route through Hormuz, with talks continuing to finalize details. The memorandum had called for safe, toll-free commercial passage for 60 days and dialogue involving Iran and Oman over administration of the waterway. Trump also said Iran should surrender and confirmed a U.S. backchannel with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, a claim the IRGC denied. The United States has applied pressure on Iranian shipping while seeking to reopen Hormuz. The waterway normally carries about one-fifth of global oil. No evidence indicates the bombing threat represents an announced military operation.
