Trump made the warning in a Fox News interview as a 60-day U.S.-Iran memorandum expired without a permanent settlement. Reuters separately reported that a senior Iranian official said Tehran had decided to move from defense to offense because efforts to secure peace had deadlocked. The memorandum, signed in June, called for negotiations toward a final agreement and temporary arrangements for commercial shipping through Hormuz. Iran and Oman have since discussed a framework for reopening the waterway, which Washington opposes if it limits U.S. control or blockade objectives. The escalation matters to Americans because Hormuz disruption has already contributed to elevated fuel prices and wider energy-market uncertainty.
