Hayden Panettiere Found Dead at 36, 911 Call Indicates Possible Overdose
Actress Hayden Panettiere, known for “Heroes,” “Nashville” and the “Scream” franchise, died Sunday at 36 in Greenville, South Carolina, her family confirmed. Police said officers and emergency medical personnel responded around 1:50 p.m. Aug. 16 to an apartment after an acquaintance reported an unresponsive woman. Panettiere was pronounced dead at the scene after medical assistance was attempted. Authorities said the preliminary investigation found no signs of foul play or suspicious circumstances, while the Greenville Police Department and Greenville County Coroner’s Office continue investigating. Dispatch audio obtained by TMZ and PEOPLE reportedly includes references to an overdose and cardiac arrest, but officials have not established an official cause of death. An autopsy was scheduled Monday. Panettiere publicly discussed addiction and postpartum depression, including in her 2026 memoir, “This Is Me: A Reckoning.” She is survived by her daughter, Kaya. Her father, Skip Panettiere, asked for privacy as the family mourns officially.
