Joshua Báez made Major League Baseball history Saturday, August 15, hitting three home runs in his first three career at-bats as the St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Chicago Cubs 8-4 at Wrigley Field. The 23-year-old outfielder, promoted from Triple-A Memphis earlier that day, homered against Cubs starter Matthew Boyd in the first, fourth and sixth innings, driving in five runs. His first homer traveled 449 feet, according to MLB Statcast. Báez finished 3-for-4 and became the first player to homer in each of his first three major-league at-bats. MLB, Associated Press and Reuters independently reported the record. Reuters said Báez had entered the game leading Triple-A with 34 homers and 90 RBIs in 103 games.
